♫Beautiful Little Oriental Girls♫

These next two songs are seen through the eyes of a soldier in Vietnam. It speaks to the cross-culture romance stolen between moments of terror in a place where everything is trying to kill you.

A little clarification, Dew is what they called marijuana and hash. Fire ants would nest at the top of bamboo trees. If you hit one, chances are they would rain down on you. Didi mao means, quickly! Hurry up! Move!!! a boot is a raw recruit. Lyrics are just below this picture-

Lyrics=

Beautiful little Oriental girls

Deep and mysterious eyes

Far from the free world

Deep in the jungle I...

Hide from the tracers

I melt in the darkness to stay alive

And I dream of the ocean

I dream of the sea

I close my eyes as the waves cover me

I pray I survive

Though a part of me dies

And is buried forever

Beneath foreign skies...

Beautiful little Oriental girls

Beautiful little Oriental girls

The names and the faces they all fade away

like a photograph left in the sun

That kind of life has a place of its own

down where the terror lives... all alone

One sweet forgetting... the touch of her skin

The way of the conquered to welcome me in

I didn’t know then all the things I know now

The greed and corruption back in DC

at the time they remained a mystery to me

out on patrol and looking to kill.

In the bamboo you would have to be still

or the fire ants fell and the fire ants stung

your body would scream

as you bit on your tongue

boots hid themslves in the elephant grass

smoking their fear with the Dew

in case The Viet Cong couldn’t find you

but they always did.

They always did

you might kill a snake

and you might kill a cow

but never The Cong

Didi mau! Didi mau!

Didi mau! Didi mau!
